8th Annual Labor & Employment Seminar Reaches Record Number of Attendees

EL PASO, TX – ScottHulse Law Firm’s 2016 Labor & Employment Law Seminar, held on March 3, set a new attendance record for the annual event, which is now in its eighth year. The seminar, which was attended by more than 200 business owners, executives, managers, supervisors, human resource professionals, and in-house legal counsel, was hosted by the South-West Texas Small Business Development Center at El Paso Community College.
“Labor and employment laws and regulations change rapidly, and sometimes dramatically, affecting our business community and workforce,” said attorney Rosemary Marin, head of the ScottHulse Labor & Employment practice group. “Record attendance and the high level of repeat participation are evidence of our community’s need for continuous training and an understanding of critical legal issues related to employment law.”
The seminar covered a wide array of timely topics of critical importance to employers, including Form I9 preparation and revision, wage and hour issues related to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), workplace regulations related to the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and bullying and violence in the workplace. Other topics included LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) in the workplace, social media issues for employers and employees, and employee investigations.
This year’s seminar featured new approaches in theming and the use of interactive technology. The theme, “Everything I Need to Know About Labor & Employment Law I Learned at the Movies,” provided an entertaining context for presentations, some of which featured video and scenes from movies. Audience polling via text-messages enhanced audience interaction throughout the day.
Seminar attendees earned certification credits for the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), continuing legal education (CLE), and continuing professional education (CPE).
Ms. Marin and her team advise businesses both large and small in the development and implementation of proactive strategies and programs that help to reduce risk related to employment matters, including regulatory compliance.
